President’s Note

Greetings,

Thank you for taking a moment to explore the website, history and happenings of the Junior League of Racine!

As we celebrate our 95th Anniversary, the Junior League of Racine has seen many changes over the years….but one thing remains the same – our dedication and legacy to” promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. “  As President of the tremendous organization, I an honored to share with you the many facets or our organization that make an impact on our community every day.

The Junior League of Racine is incredible!!!  Inspired, motivated, learning, legendary, volunteering, commitment, relationships, and legacy are just a few words that come to mind when I think about the Junior League of Racine….it’s history, our members, and all that we encompass together.

The great thing about Junior League for me is that this organization embodies so many of the things I believe in, and allows us to be a community together…an organization of women boldly and purposefully making lasting change.

We use our mission to guide each project and activity that we participate in.  Our members are making an impact on our community while being trained as leaders and developing the potential within themselves and as a group.  The League has a variety of committee placements and volunteer opportunities each year. The legacy continues as our members serve through several community agencies and provide over 2,000 hours of community service annually.   We are very proud of the fact that 94% of our funds raised goes toward our mission.

To support our mission and projects, we raise more than $30,000 through our fundraising efforts each year.  Our Vision Statement calls us to “grow through and be recognized for focused efforts on projects that enhance the well-being of children and for providing a legacy of trained volunteers.”  This year, our Community Research committee will actively identify projects that our members have indicated as areas of interest including: Teen Parenting, Self-Esteem & Bullying, Literacy & Educational Programs, and Health & Childhood Obesity. The Junior League of Racine, along with AJLI,  delivers innovative and relevant training sessions to ensure our volunteers have the skills they need to be effective in the community.

It is the hard work of both Active and Sustaining members, coupled with the help from our community supporters that ensures the maximum impact the Junior League makes in our thriving community.   Many of our members continue to serve the Racine community long after they are active members of the League.  You will recognize them as non-profit executive directors, board members, fund development officers and volunteers.   We are deeply grateful for the support, guidance, funding and partnerships we have with many members of the greater Racine Community.  It is through this support that we have a rich history, strong foundation and the ability to continue building on our legacy of lasting change.

The 2011-2012 League year will be filled with meaningful and fun activities and projects as we celebrate our 95th Anniversary.

I encourage you to explore our website, attend our fundraisers & events and engage with our members to learn more about our League and the mission we proudly work towards throughout the year.

Warm regards,

Julie Lang
